“Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. Love never fails.” – 1 Corinthians 13:4-8 NIV
The Bible talks in length about love, how much God loves us and how we should love others. I have read many of these verses over the past 30 years but for some reason I chose to not really understand the message. I had different variations of love depending on the person or the relationship I had with them and offered nothing but hate to others. I wrote recently that “Forgiveness is the Key to Happiness” and while that is true the next step is unconditional love. It’s one thing to Forgive but the act should not stop there as past thoughts and feelings need to be replaced by loving thoughts going forward.
I don’t think I was alone with my thoughts of anger towards people, past events, or situations, and feel this is perhaps the biggest problem we have in our world today. The world is becoming a melting pot but yet we struggle in accepting different people, races, and cultures. The world seems to be shrinking in size as population continues to grow and technology immediately highlights events happening all over the world which point to unrest, disagreements, and anger due to our religious and cultural differences. This needs to change and God has provided us a way with unconditional Love.
It needs to be pointed out there are not different types or different levels of Love. There are no degrees or distinctions – there is only one Love that does not change with a person or a circumstance.
Unfortunately, much like I did not understand this, much of the world today thinks that Love can change and that it is acceptable to love at times and hate at others. Watch the evening news to see this in action or tonight when you drive home – if you live in a big city like me – watch and you will see tempers and impatience projected to others during your rush hour commute back to your home.
Love is God’s will and there is no love but His. Unfortunately the world does not believe this and has it’s own version of what love is and selectively applies it when it sees fit.
But we can change that. We can come to understand we are all brothers in God’s Love.
I bless you brother with the Love of God. There is only one Love which everyone here on this Earth has the ability to share. Rejoice in this gift and may God give you peace.
